How I Started in Business
August 13th, 2007 . by adminIt had never been an ambition of mine to start my own business. I always imagined that I would be working albeit in the good position, but within a company reporting to senior staff.
The main aspect of what changed my mind was meeting people who ran businesses, some of whom were doing very well. It dispelled a lot of the views that I held previously about the owners of small businesses.
I found that there were varying reasons why people were working for themselves, some did not want to or could not go the college, and some could not get a job and others because they had a plan and wanted to execute it.
What this realisation did was to make it clear that it was not always the best and brightest that ended up starting their own businesses; sometimes it was also those who had no alternative options.
The next stage of the process was the growing sentiment that if they could do it, I can do it. So here I am with my own blog trying to run a business, having some successes but most of all, a lot of fun.
This is very interest as thinking about it, I thought the same thing. It is fascinating how we can assume things and how they become barriers to our achievement.
I have plans for going in to business which I hope will be completed by the end of the year. I might view some of the company formation services which are suggested on the site, but first I have to make sure that this is the right course of action for me. Whatever I decide, I will always try to remember that I have the ability to succeed just the same as others who have gone before and who will come after. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks Sky Blue. It is often best to write things down as you can not assume that everyone has a specific bit of knowledge or has thought of a particular point. I am finding that this is one of the large benefits of having a blog. Notes, thoughts and opinions can be posted which may be useful to others. Regarding the company formation facilities you spoke of, the business that we use comes highly recommended to us. They are several incorporation packages for £24.99 and most registrations only take a few hours.
It is best to ensure that the correct option is chosen for your ambitions as sometimes limited companies are not suitable for everyone. You might want to speak to an Accountant or Business advisor before reaching a final conclusion. Best of luck in you business planning and let us know when you are ready to launch.
I started my business after years of thinking whether I could be successful at it. After having qualified as a solicitor with a large law firm I always believed that having a smaller practice with a few other partners in a quieter environment would be better for my family and my own sense of well-being.
I finally took the plunge and set-up the business in January 2008 with a lesser experienced partner who had some expertise in the corporate and copyright law.
Although business began to slow towards the end of the half year stage and created some pressures financially, I must say that I am thoroughly enjoying working for myself.
If starting a new business is an affordable option then I would suggest that the opportunities are taken. I wish that we had set-up our solicitors practice some years ago and therefore could have enjoyed some of the economic growth which has now slowed.
Having said that, I also believe that if we can survive the current tightening conditions then this will stand us in good stead for when business begins to pick up.
I guess what I am trying to say is that being in business and following a plan is the best thing I have done and although discretionary corporate spending may be reducing, the experience is still a very enjoyable one.
The idea of starting a business in the current uncertain and globally dismal climate is typical of the bullish attitude which has resulted in the economic problems being experienced today.
Surely is it not sensible to ignore the blatant signs and think that success of any description can be found by a new business where older, experienced ones are failing.
If nothing else everyone should learn from the lessons of the past and for those who have trouble remembering previous unpleasant experiences, then today you can read a new paper and witness the ones which exist today.
If a measure of caution and reasonableness is applied during both the good times and the bad then, surely terrible economic crises can be adverted. Secondly, the situation of private individuals who are already suffering is not then compounded by them thinking that their staring business is some the right answer.
Everyone should sit tight and wait this one out. Anything else is like going out in to a hurricane just as the wind is about to pick up.
