Company Secretary
September 14th, 2011 . by MichaelWe run a small accountancy practice and occasionally become involved in helping potential clients thinking of starting a new business in the UK. The favoured option was to set up a limited company.
Upon visiting a company formation agent we were informed that a company secretary was no longer needed since part of the Companies Act 2006 which came in to force in October 2009. This was a bit of a shock as our accountancy firm usually acted as company secretary to our client’s incorporated businesses and thus we were in an advantageous position to manage the company’s filing statutory requirements and ensure that all the company formation documents were despatched to ourselves.
Do any other accountancy practices have any comments on whether the Companies Act 2006 exemption has caused them any similar issues?
